Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido says three people have now been charged in connection with the alleged attempted murder of local businessman Eddie Jawad, a case that investigators say began with an embezzlement scheme inside his own company.
According to prosecutors, Jasan Martin, 32, and Rachard Huffman, 39, are accused of conspiring to kill Jawad after a six-figure embezzlement was uncovered. Huffman’s wife, Dawn Huffman, 44, who served as office manager for Jawad Investments and worked for him for more than two decades, is accused of stealing more than $100,000 using a company credit card meant to pay DTE Energy bills.
Authorities allege that once Jawad began looking into the missing money, Martin and Huffman plotted to “silence” him, a plan that allegedly ended in gunfire on the morning of October 14, 2025. Investigators say Martin hid beneath a vehicle in Jawad’s driveway, waited for him to back out, then opened fire as Jawad drove away. Jawad survived.
Martin, already facing six felonies from the October attack, was hit with a new count of Conspiracy to Commit First-Degree Premeditated Murder during a court hearing Monday before Judge Stephen Sierawski in 41A District Court, Shelby Township. His bond remains at $1 million cash/surety, and he’s due back for a Preliminary Exam on November 24.
Rachard Huffman was arraigned on the same murder conspiracy charge plus Conspiracy to Commit Embezzlement. His bond is also $1 million.
Dawn Huffman was charged with:
• Embezzlement of $100,000 or more (20-year felony)
• Conspiracy to Commit Embezzlement (5-year felony)
Her bond was set at $500,000 cash/surety.
Both Huffmans are due back for Probable Cause Conferences on November 17 and Preliminary Exams on November 24.
Prosecutor Lucido said, “Conspiracy to commit murder stands among the most evil and reprehensible of all crimes. It represents not only a willingness to take an innocent life but a deliberate and premeditated plan to do so.”
Lucido also credited the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office for their “diligent efforts” in uncovering the alleged plot.
All that are accused of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
