Former Michigan State Representative Jewell Jones is back in the headlines and once more, it is for all the wrong reasons. Jones who served the 11th District from January 2017 through January 2023 is now in the Saginaw County Jail after being accused of bringing firearms into Covenant Hospital.
These aren’t just any run of the mill firearms either, he had two of them and one was an MP5 submachine gun! He also had another gun in his hoodie pocket. As you’re very well aware, hospitals are gun-free zones unless you’re armed security.
Well, Jones told police he was acting as a bodyguard for a religious leader at the hospital. Didn’t cut it. He was arrested and booked into the Saginaw County Jail on Tuesday morning, August 26th.
This is not the first time Jones has had a run in with the law. In 2021 he was arrested after crashing his car while intoxicated and carrying a Glock handgun. He resisted arrest and tried to use his political power to intimidate police even boasting that he controlled the state budget. Later that same year he was caught attempting to sneak a handcuff key into jail by taping it to his foot. Those antics earned him additional charges and national attention.
