Livonia, MI – A Facebook Marketplace transaction turned into a larceny arrest and it happened in the front parking lot of the Livonia Police Department.
According to the Livonia Police Department, the incident occurred February 18, 2026, when a victim met a seller to purchase items arranged through Facebook Marketplace. Police say the victim exited their vehicle and approached the driver’s side window of the suspect’s vehicle.
Before inspecting the items, the victim handed over $1,300 in cash. Investigators say once the suspect received the money, he immediately fled the parking lot without providing the merchandise.
Detectives later identified the suspect as 19-year-old Demerious Whiteside of Detroit. He was taken into custody during the evening hours of February 26 and charged with larceny.
Whiteside was arraigned February 27 in the 16th District Court. Bond was set at $15,000, 10% provision. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 6, 2026.
