“Family Matters” Actor Darius McCrary Now Held On $112,663 Bond In Oakland County Contempt Case

Actor Darius McCrary, best known for playing Eddie Winslow on the 1990s sitcom Family Matters, remains in custody at the Oakland County Jail, now on a $112,663.34 cash bond tied to a long-running felony contempt of court case stemming from unpaid child support.

McCrary, 49, was extradited from California to Michigan after being arrested earlier this month near the U.S.–Mexico border. He was wanted for failing to appear in court over back child support, a case that dates back several years.

While initial jail records showed an $18,868 bond for the child support nonpayment and an additional $100 for absconding, a deeper look at court filings reveals a 2023 felony case for Obstruction of Justice – Contempt of Court still active in Oakland County Circuit Court. That older case was reactivated following McCrary’s arrest, and the higher six-figure bond was set under that file.

The steep amount likely reflects both the total arrears owed and the court’s frustration with McCrary’s long pattern of missed appearances and noncompliance. Judges can increase bond to ensure a defendant finally faces the outstanding charges after being extradited.

McCrary’s next hearing is scheduled for November 13, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., for a Probable Cause Conference.

The actor’s legal issues stem from a bitter child support dispute with his ex-wife, Tammy Brawner, a former Harlem Globetrotter who was granted full custody of their daughter following their 2019 divorce.
