Farmington Hills Man Sentenced to 20–80 Years in Prison for Killing Brother in 2024 Shooting

Pontiac, MI – A long-running Oakland County homicide case is now closed after sentencing was handed down in the 2024 shooting death of Ricky Williams III.

On Feb. 24, 2026, 31-year-old Fredrick Delano Logan of Farmington Hills was sentenced to 20–80 years in prison for second-degree murder in the May 25, 2024 killing of his 28-year-old younger brother. The sentence was imposed in Oakland County Circuit Court and also includes additional mandatory penalties tied to firearm convictions.

Logan previously entered a no contest plea to second-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and two counts of felony firearm. While a no contest plea is not a direct admission of guilt, it is treated as such for sentencing purposes and avoids a trial. That plea set the stage for formal sentencing, bringing the nearly two-year court process to an end.

Investigators said the shooting stemmed from an argument between the brothers inside an apartment on Saratoga Circle near 11 Mile and Halstead roads in Farmington Hills. Their mother called 911 to report that the dispute had escalated and that Logan had shot Williams. Logan fled the scene but was arrested the following day in Warren with assistance from local police. Williams was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Under Michigan law, second-degree murder carries a potential penalty of life in prison or any term of years. In this case, the court imposed a parolable sentence of 20–80 years, meaning Logan must serve a minimum of 20 years before becoming eligible for parole consideration. The felony firearm convictions carry mandatory prison time that runs consecutive to the underlying felony sentence.

Court records show Logan had prior convictions before the 2024 homicide, including a 2015 attempted larceny in a building case and weapons-related offenses. With sentencing now complete, the case that began with a family argument and ended in gunfire has formally reached its conclusion in Oakland County Circuit Court.
