CANTON TOWNSHIP, MICH. – On Monday, October 13, at approximately 7:55 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police Metro South Post responded to a fatal traffic crash on southbound I-275 near Palmer Road.
Preliminary Investigation:
Troopers determined that a male driver had parked his vehicle on the right shoulder of SB I-275, exited, and walked into the lanes of travel. One driver was able to swerve and avoid him, but a second vehicle struck the pedestrian while he was in the middle lane.
Both drivers remained at the scene. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.
Southbound I-275 remained closed for several hours during the investigation.
“Troopers will interview family members to determine why the pedestrian walked into the roadway,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “Remember you are not alone. If you are struggling there are people to talk to. Contact friends, police, medical staff, clergy, or the 988 crisis hotline. There is always help available.”
