Flint Police Officer Found Dead From Gunshot Wound Outside Mt. Morris Township Church, No Foul Play Suspected

With profound sadness, we regret to inform you of the passing of Flint Police Officer Charles Redmond. Officer Redmond passed away on 2/8/26. We will never forget the dedication, service, and sacrifices that Officer Redmond made for our department and our community.


Mt. Morris Township, MI. โ†’ A Flint police officer was found dead Sunday evening from a gunshot wound outside the Trinity Assembly of God Church in Mt. Morris Township, according to authorities.

Flint Police Chief Terence Green confirmed the death and stated that investigators do not suspect foul play. The officer was discovered near the church property along West Mt. Morris Road near I-75. Traffic cones were placed at the entrances to the church while the scene was processed.

Michigan State Police Lt. Ashley Miller said troopers from the Flint Post, along with the Third District Special Investigation Section, are leading the investigation into the officerโ€™s death. Officials emphasized that the incident is not connected to the church and that there is no threat to the public.

The name of the officer has not yet been released, as the Flint Police Department continues working to notify family members.

Chief Green described the officer as a respected member of the department who made a lasting impact on those who served alongside him.

โ€œHe was an outstanding officer. Heโ€™s a great loss to our department, and heโ€™s well-liked through the ranks of the police department, so he will be missed,โ€ Green said.

Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley also issued a statement Monday, calling the loss deeply painful for the community and urging residents to keep the officerโ€™s loved ones in their thoughts.

โ€œToday, my heart is heavy as we mourn the loss of a dedicated public servant. I ask our community to join me in lifting up the family of our fallen hero with prayers, love, and sincere condolences,โ€ Neeley said.

The mayor also spoke about the unseen toll that public safety work can take, noting the emotional and mental strain carried by those who protect their communities. He reaffirmed the cityโ€™s commitment to ensuring that officers and first responders have access to mental health resources and support.

The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine the circumstances surrounding the officerโ€™s death.
