Ford has announced it’s electric future with a $2 Billion investment into it’s Kentucky Louisville Assembly Plant to produce only EV vehicles beginning in 2027.
The company announced the investment at a media event at the plant on August 11th.
The “Model T moment” as Ford has referred to it as comes from the introduction of Fords new EV platform which it’s referring to as it’s “Universal EV Platform.”
Beginning in 2027 the plant will begin producing a midsize, four-door electric pickup truck priced at around $30,000. While the company has announced the platform as being flexible and able to produce other body styles like SUV’s or commercial vehicles the only announced product is the midsize pickup truck.
The company has also introduced a new manufacturing process called the “assembly tree” production system that promises to cut 20% of parts, reduce workstations by 40% and speed the assembly process up by 15%.
The investment at the plant is expected to retain or create around 2,200 jobs.
