With New Year’s Eve consistently ranking as one of the most dangerous nights of the year to be on the road, a Michigan law firm is once again stepping in to help keep impaired drivers off Metro Detroit streets.
The Ride Free NYE campaign from Mike Morse Law Firm is back for its fourth year, offering thousands of free Uber ride vouchers to Metro Detroit residents planning to celebrate the holiday.
The annual initiative has already distributed more than 10,000 ride vouchers over the past several years. This year, the firm says it plans to double the number of vouchers available compared to last year, expanding access to safe transportation options during one of the highest-risk nights for drunk driving.
When and Where the Free Rides Apply
The free ride vouchers are valid for trips taken anywhere in Metro Detroit between:
- 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2025
- 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2026
How the Free Uber Vouchers Work
According to the campaign’s FAQ:
- Riders must sign in to or create a personal account on Uber
- Users click the “Claim Your Uber Voucher” button on the Mike Morse campaign webpage
- The voucher is automatically added to the rider’s account
- Vouchers become usable starting Dec. 31 at 5 p.m. and expire at 5 a.m. on Jan. 1
Each voucher covers up to $20 of the trip fare. Any amount over $20 is charged to the user’s personal payment method on file.
Vouchers cannot be used on Uber business profiles and must be redeemed using a personal Uber account.
To view the voucher in the Uber app:
- Open the Uber app
- Tap Account
- Select Wallet
- Scroll down to Vouchers
