Antrim County, MI → A 6’2”, 260-pound Gaylord man is facing serious felony charges after being accused of physically assaulting a child, and records show he was previously convicted of criminal sexual conduct involving a child under 13.

Michigan State Police say the investigation into 43-year-old Jason Francis McGovern began in January after troopers received an allegation of child abuse. Authorities conducted an investigation and submitted their findings to the Antrim County Prosecutor’s Office, which authorized charges.
McGovern was arrested on January 29, 2026, and lodged at the Antrim County Jail without incident.
He was arraigned February 3 in the 86th District Court in Antrim County on one count of Child Abuse Second Degree and one count of Assault With Intent To Do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder. His next court examination is scheduled for February 18 at 11:00 a.m.
According to offender registry records, McGovern is listed as a 6’2”, 260-pound male. The new allegations center on claims that he physically assaulted a child, leading to the felony charges.
The case also brings renewed attention to McGovern’s criminal history. Records show that in 2009, he was convicted in Genesee County’s 7th Circuit Court of Criminal Sexual Conduct Second Degree involving a person under the age of 13.
The latest charges are unrelated to the earlier CSC conviction but again involve allegations tied to harm against a child.
