Gunman Fires Multiple Shots Into Detroit Home While Family Slept, Police Seek Public’s Help

Detroit police are searching for a gunman who fired multiple rounds into an occupied home in the early morning hours while the residents were sleeping.

The shooting occurred at approximately 4:47 a.m. on Jan. 3 on Birwood Avenue near 7 Mile Road on the city’s northwest side.

Surveillance video shows a man approaching the residence and repeatedly banging on the front door. When no one answered, the suspect opened fire, shooting multiple rounds into the home. The suspect then fired additional shots at a vehicle parked in the driveway.

Police say the gunman fled the scene, returned shortly afterward, and fired more rounds before leaving the area again.

Four people were inside the home at the time of the shooting. Multiple bullets penetrated the front door and windows, with rounds traveling through several rooms inside the residence. No physical injuries were reported.

Additional video from a neighboring home shows the suspect firing at both the house and the parked vehicle. Bullet damage remains visible on the exterior of the home, the vehicle, and inside the residence.

Investigators say the suspect’s face is clearly visible in surveillance footage. Police also believe the gunman may not have been alone and that another person may have been inside a vehicle connected to the incident.

Detroit police are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect and any associated individuals.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detroit Police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
