Kidnapped Man Found With Burning SUV On Detroit’s East Side

Detroit police are investigating a kidnapping that began around 5 a.m. Monday on the city’s west side and ended with a vehicle fire and a severely beaten victim on the east side.

The man was abducted near Vernor Highway and Woodmere. Hours later officers located him on Mount Elliot just south of Seven Mile Road. His SUV was engulfed in flames. Despite being hog-tied, the victim was able to yell and make noise which drew first responders to the burning vehicle.

The victim was pulled away from the fire and rushed to the hospital. He is expected to survive. “This was a violent attack and we are asking the public to come forward with any information,” a Detroit Police spokesperson said.

Detectives stressed they need help from the community. “Someone out there saw or heard something. Even the smallest detail could help us make an arrest,” police added.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit Police at 313-596-5400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
