Livonia Man Charged in Garden City New Year’s Day Bar Shooting, Visible Injuries Seen After Arrest

GARDEN CITY, Mich. — A 29-year-old Livonia man has been formally charged in connection with the New Year’s Day shooting that left a father and son critically injured outside a Garden City bar.

The suspect, Brian Jaron Lindsay was arraigned Sunday in 36th District Court after prosecutors said he opened fire following a physical altercation in the parking lot of Rockstarz bar shortly after 4:00 a.m. on Jan. 1.

Police said a 55-year-old man and his 22-year-old son, both from Livonia, were shot during the incident. The older victim was struck in the head, while the younger victim was shot in the chest. Both were transported to area hospitals, where they remain in critical condition.

According to investigators, the suspect fled the scene but later contacted authorities and voluntarily surrendered at the Garden City Police Department later that day. Police previously stated the surrender occurred without incident.

Charges filed

Prosecutors authorized the following charges:

  • Two counts of assault with intent to murder
  • Two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm
  • Two counts of felonious assault
  • Six counts of felony firearm

The suspect was given a $1 million bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 12.

Visible injuries noted

In a photo of the suspect at his arraignment following the arrest, the suspect appears to have visible facial injuries, including what appears to be a black eye and a noticeable bruise or swelling on the forehead.

At this time, authorities have not said how or when those injuries occurred. Police have not indicated whether the injuries were sustained during the altercation outside the bar, at another point earlier in the day, during the suspect’s flight from the scene, or from an unrelated incident.

Investigation details

Police described the shooting as an isolated incident and said there is no ongoing threat to the public. Ford Road was shut down for several hours between Wildwood and Venoy while detectives processed the scene and reviewed surveillance footage from nearby businesses.
