A man wanted in Macomb County on fraud-related charges has been arrested in Arizona and now faces multiple felony cases across Michigan tied to alleged contractor scams involving tens of thousands of dollars.
Alexander Donald Diegel was taken into custody in December 2025 in Arizona and is currently awaiting extradition back to Michigan, according to law enforcement officials.
Authorities say Diegel is facing charges in Charlevoix County, Oscoda County, and Macomb County, stemming from separate construction and roofing agreements where he allegedly accepted large payments and failed to complete the contracted work.
In Charlevoix County, prosecutors say a church hired Diegel in 2023 for a roofing project and paid him $97,250. Investigators allege Diegel completed only a small portion of the job before stopping work and cutting off communication, forcing the church to hire another contractor and absorb substantial financial losses.
As a result, Diegel has been charged in Charlevoix County with Fraudulent Use of a Building Contract Fund and Larceny by Conversion involving $20,000 or more.
Further investigation uncovered additional alleged victims in other counties. In Oscoda County, Diegel is accused of accepting a down payment for siding services in 2023 but failing to perform any work after entering the agreement. Authorities say the homeowner was unable to contact him afterward.
In Macomb County, Diegel faces similar allegations tied to a 2024 roofing agreement, where investigators say a homeowner paid a down payment and then lost contact with him before any work was completed.
Prosecutors in Charlevoix County say the cases across multiple counties reveal a pattern of alleged contractor fraud, though authorities have not indicated whether additional victims may exist.
Diegel remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
