MAN CHARGED WITH SENDING THREATENING E-MAILS TO MACOMB COUNTY CIRCUIT COURT JUDGE

A Westland man has been charged with sending e-mails to Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Jennifer M. Faunce that were both threatening and offensive in nature.

Jason Tolonen, 52-years-old from Westland is alleged to have sent e-mails to the Judge on or about Friday, January 24, 2025 that referenced and were directed to Judge Faunce.

According to Macomb County ProsecutorPeter Lucido the language of the emails was disjointed, however words including “shot to death,” “all dead mass killed,” “all mass murdered,” and “die die die” were used. References to “family” and “Warren” were also made. Judge Jennifer M. Faunce’s sister, Hon. Suzanne Faunce, is a current Warren District Court judge, and their father, Hon. Sherman Faunce, is a former Warren District Court judge.

Tolonen was arraigned on Thursday, July 31st in the 39th District Court of Roseville before Judge Kathleen E. Tocco on the following charges:

– Computers – Using to Commit a Crime, 7-year felony

– Unlawful Posting of Message with Aggravating Circumstances, 5-year felony

Tolonen was given a $500k cash/surety bond. If he posts bond he must wear a GPS tether, have no use of internet or a computer, possess no weapons, have no contact with Judge Jennifer M. Faunce or her family as well as no contact with the Judges staff. He must also have no drugs or alcohol and must not leave the State of Michigan.

“We take any threat against a judge with the utmost seriousness,” said Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “The safety of our judiciary is non-negotiable. No public servant should fear for their safety or the safety of their loved ones simply for doing their job. We are committed to holding the defendant accountable and ensuring that those who serve our justice system are protected.”
