➡️ January 7, 2026: Murder and related charges have been filed against a Detroit man following a violent altercation that left one man dead and his brother seriously injured. Michael Alan Harris, 42, was arraigned Tuesday in 36th District Court of Detroit on charges of first-degree murder, felony firearm, and resisting and obstructing a police officer, according to Kym Worthy.
Prosecutors say the charges stem from the fatal shooting of Jalen Coats Stevens, 28, who was pronounced dead early Sunday in the 15900 block of Grand River Avenue. During the same incident, Stevens’ brother, Glenn, was stabbed more than a dozen times but survived and remains hospitalized.
Hundreds gathered Tuesday night outside Chita’s Nefertiti bar for a vigil hosted by the Stevens family, who said the brothers had been celebrating Jalen’s work promotion before the violence erupted. While Harris is in custody, the family and police say the individual responsible for stabbing Glenn has not yet been located. Harris is scheduled for a probable cause conference on Jan. 14, with a preliminary examination set for Jan.
