A home invasion turned deadly Thursday morning when a masked suspect kicked in the door of an apartment on Detroit’s east side and opened fire, killing a man and injuring a woman.
It happened around 8:15 a.m. at Harris Plaza 1 Apartments on Houston Whittier near Chalmers. FOX 2 reports Detroit Police Capt. Stacy Greer-Travis said the shooter forced his way inside while wearing a medical mask.
“Once inside, he said something about a female, and then he just started firing shots,” Greer-Travis told FOX 2.
Two people were inside the apartment – a man and a woman in her 30s. The man was fatally shot. The woman was hit as well but survived and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
After the gunfire, the suspect took off on foot. Police say they have no usable description at this time because his face was covered.
A motive has not been confirmed.
Detectives from the Ninth Precinct and the Homicide Unit are leading the investigation. Anyone with information is urged to call Detroit Police at 313-596-2260, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP, or submit tips to DetroitRewards.TV.
