LANSING, Mich. – A Branch County jury has convicted a man extradited from Mexico of multiple felony sex crimes involving two minor victims, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced Friday.
Anthony Cuyler, 47, a Branch County resident, was found guilty of three counts of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct and one count of Delivery of Methamphetamine to a Minor following a jury trial on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
Cuyler was originally charged in 2019 by the Branch County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for sexually assaulting two girls, ages 11 and 12, and for providing them with methamphetamine. Prosecutors said Cuyler fled Michigan and successfully evaded authorities for several years before being located in Mexico.
In April 2024, Cuyler was extradited back to Michigan by the U.S. Marshals Service as part of Operation Survivor Justice, a joint effort between the Michigan Department of Attorney General, local county prosecutors, and federal law enforcement to track down fugitives wanted on sexual assault warrants.
“Cold case sexual assaults are among the most challenging to prosecute,” Nessel said in a statement. “I commend the victims, prosecutors from my office, and our Operation Survivor Justice partners, including the U.S. Marshals Service, for locating, apprehending, and extraditing Mr. Cuyler to face these charges. I also thank Branch County Prosecuting Attorney Stempien for his efforts that led to a significant conviction in this heinous case.”
Cuyler now faces decades behind bars. Because the victims were under 13-years old, Michigan law requires a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison, with a maximum of life imprisonment on each of the three First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct convictions. In addition, delivering methamphetamine to a minor carries severe penalties under state law, including up to 40 years in prison and fines of up to $25,000, with mandatory minimum sentences possible. Sentencing will be scheduled for a later date.
