Michigan Man Sentenced Up to 225 Years in Prison for Child Sex Crimes After Judge Rejects Attempt to Withdraw Plea

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — A Mecosta County man convicted of multiple child sex crimes will spend what is likely to be the remainder of his life in prison after a judge rejected a last-ditch effort to withdraw his plea and imposed decades of consecutive prison time.

Lukas Munro

Lukas Munro, 26, was sentenced Monday, January 12, 2026, in Mecosta County Circuit Court to a combined minimum of 66 years and a maximum of 225 years in prison, according to court records.

During the sentencing hearing, Munro attempted to withdraw his plea, but the request was denied by the court after sworn testimony and questioning. The judge determined there was no legal basis to allow the plea withdrawal.

Munro appeared in person from the Michigan Department of Corrections, accompanied by defense counsel. The court also heard a victim impact statement prior to sentencing.

Munro pleaded no contest to four counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct of a child under 13 years old in addition to aggravated criminal sexual conduct, using computers to commit a crime, second degree criminal sexual conduct and aggravated possession of sexually abusive material, Mecosta County court records show.

The Mecosta County Prosecutor agreed to drop two counts of aggravated indecent exposure and one count of failure to register as a sex offender following his sentencing on the other charges.

Sentence Structure, Concurrent and Consecutive Terms

Court records show the following prison sentences were imposed, with credit for 123 days already served applied where applicable.

Consecutive sentences:

  • 16 to 25 years in prison, consecutive to the 25 to 100 year term

The consecutive sentencing structure results in a minimum term of 66 years before parole eligibility, with a maximum of 225 years. Munro will be 92 years old when he’s eligible for parole.

Lifetime Monitoring and Sex Offender Registration

In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered:

  • Lifetime sex offender registration
  • Lifetime electronic monitoring
  • No contact with the victim or the victim’s family
  • $5,156.00 in court costs and fees

Munro was advised of his appellate rights at the conclusion of the hearing.

Charges and Plea

On November 24, 2025, Munro entered a no contest plea to the following felony charges:

  • Criminal sexual conduct, 1st degree, victim under 13
  • Criminal sexual conduct, 2nd degree, victim under 13
  • Aggravated child sexually abusive activity

Two additional counts, aggravated indecent exposure and failure to register as a sex offender, were dismissed as part of the plea resolution.

Investigation and Prior Conviction

Munro was arrested in January 2025 in Grand Rapids following an investigation by the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Court records also show this was Munro’s second conviction involving crimes against minors. In 2017, he was convicted of criminal sexual conduct and served nearly five years in prison.
