CLARKSBURG, W.Va. – A Michigan man wanted for open murder and multiple violent felonies in connection to a deadly 2025 shooting in Jackson County has been arrested in West Virginia after months as a fugitive.
The U.S. Marshals Service announced that Dion Jamel Flowers Jr., 29, was taken into custody without incident at approximately 7:20 a.m. at a residence on March 2, 2026. Flowers was wanted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office on charges of open murder, four counts of assault with intent to murder, felony firearm, and weapons violations.
Authorities say the charges stem from a May 16, 2025 shooting in the 100 block of Lincoln Court in Summit Township near Jackson. Investigators allege that just after midnight, three men approached a home where friends and family were gathered on a porch and opened fire into the group.
Four people were struck during the gunfire: 45-year-old Anthony Owens, 63-year-old Kenneth Avant, 44-year-old Randall Hurst, and 42-year-old Michael Gant. All were rushed to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. Owens died in the early morning hours of May 17.
In late December, authorities publicly identified three suspects in connection with the shooting: Flowers, Montez Martees White, and Tyrek Tra-Quan Jabrie Rice. Each suspect faces one count of open murder and multiple counts of assault with intent to murder. Rice and Flowers also face additional charges for being prohibited persons in possession of a weapon.
Rice was located in Ohio and taken into custody late last year. White was also arrested by U.S. Marshals in Ohio.
After investigators developed information that Flowers had fled to the Morgantown area, the U.S. Marshals Service Mountain State Fugitive Task Force began working leads to locate him. Deputies identified associates and ultimately tracked him to the area.
Because of the violent nature of the charges, the West Virginia State Police Special Response Team assisted with the arrest. Officials say Flowers was taken into custody without incident after tactical teams entered the home. The Mon Metro Drug Task Force, ATF, and the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the operation.
Flowers will first appear in Monongalia County as a fugitive from justice before being extradited back to Michigan to face the charges.
Authorities have not released a motive for the deadly shooting, which remains under investigation.
