Troopers from the Metro South Post were working with Auto Theft task forces targeting stolen vehicles.
They received a license plate reader hit on a vehicle that was reported stolen out of Southgate.
The vehicle was located at a gas station in the area of 8 Mile Road and Glastonbury unoccupied. Trooper 2 started following the vehicle after a suspect got in the vehicle. While tracking the vehicle, Trooper 2 observed the suspect intentionally ram into another vehicle. Troopers checked on the occupants and they were not hurt.
After catching up with the suspect vehicle, troopers attempted a stop but the suspect fled. Trooper 2 tracked the vehicle to the MGM Hotel parking structure. Casino security assisted troopers into locating the suspect and the 39 year old man from Van Buren Township was taken into custody without incident. Pends prosecutor review.
“Through the use of technology and troopers, detectives and casino security, another suspect off the street,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. We see from the Trooper 2 video that this suspect was not only in a stolen car but also a danger to other drivers.”
