MIDDLE EASTERN MARCH TO CLOSE GREENFIELD AND FORD ROADS THIS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

A large Middle Eastern religious march, known as Arba’een, will shut down major roads in Dearborn this weekend. Over 40,000 participants are expected to take to the streets, snarling traffic on Greenfield Road and Ford Road.

This year’s Arba’een observance will feature a community prayer service for the first time, followed by a massive street procession. Marchers traditionally wear all black, carry flags, and chant “Labaik Ya Hussain,” which means “At your service, oh Hussain.”

Road Closures:

  • Saturday – Greenfield Road northbound closed from Ford Road to Warren Avenue
  • Saturday – Ford Road at Schaefer Road: all westbound lanes closed
  • Sunday – Greenfield Road traffic will remain heavily disrupted as the event continues.

The City of Dearborn says northbound Greenfield will close from Ford to Warren as the march progresses, with restrictions starting on Warren Avenue before the procession and extending to Greenfield shortly afterward. Police will be on-site to manage traffic, but the city has not given an exact reopening time. The event is expected to last several hours each day, and drivers are urged to use alternate routes.
