MONROE POLICE: CROSSING GUARD CLAIMED HE WAS ‘DATING’ 13-YEAR-OLD, NOW CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT

On August 30, 2025, at 9:42 PM, Monroe Police responded to a report of suspicious activity near the Martin Luther King Jr. Pedestrian Bridge. A caller reported an older male possibly engaged in intimate contact with a younger female inside a parked vehicle.

A Monroe Police detective, assigned to the Violent Internet Predator and Exploitation Response Task Force (VIPER), made contact with a 13-year-old girl and a 23-year-old man, later identified as Timothy Alan Warthen, II. Warthen admitted to having a sexual relationship with the juvenile and described the two as “dating.” He also disclosed that he worked as a part-time crossing guard for Ida Public Schools.

The school district was immediately notified of the investigation and confirmed Warthen’s employment was terminated before the start of the 2025-2026 school year. Detectives say there is currently no evidence that he engaged in inappropriate contact with other minors, though the investigation remains active.

Warthen was arrested and booked into the Monroe County Jail on charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct 3rd Degree. He was arraigned in Monroe County First District Court, where bond was set at $100,000 cash/surety. Court records show Warthen is scheduled for an Arraignment/Pre-Trial hearing on September 11, 2025.

Police encourage anyone with additional information about this case to contact the Monroe Police Detective Bureau at (734) 243-7500.
