Mother Bangs On Monroe Fire Station Door With Unresponsive 1-Year-Old, Firefighters Save Child

Monroe, MI → A routine morning at Fire Station 1 in the City of Monroe quickly turned into a life-or-death emergency when a frantic mother arrived at the rear door carrying her unresponsive one-year-old son.

At approximately 9:36 a.m. on February 16, firefighters assigned to the Monroe Public Safety Department Fire Division were alerted by the sound of banging at the station, located at 911 E. Third Street. When they opened the door, they were met with a desperate mother seeking immediate help for her child.

Without hesitation, crews began advanced life support measures and called for an ambulance to ensure rapid transport. Firefighters worked swiftly, relying on their training and experience to stabilize the child during critical moments that can mean the difference between life and death.

Their quick response paid off.

The child was transported to a local hospital awake and in stable condition, a remarkable turnaround from the condition he was in when he arrived at the station.

Incidents like this serve as a reminder of why staffed fire stations matter.

Sometimes we run to them when they are running in. In this case they answered the call right at their own backdoor.

Thank you Monroe Fire and all first responders for your selfless service to local communities.
