On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Amanda Mae Maison, 33, appeared before Judge Cynthia Lane of the 31st Circuit Court in St. Clair County, where she pleaded guilty to Second-Degree Homicide in the death of her 3½-year-old son, Matthew Maison.
Matthew was murdered in February 2018 at the family’s home in Port Huron Township. The crime came to light after it was reported to police by the mother of Amanda’s then-boyfriend, Maurice Houle. Both Amanda and Maurice were charged with murder in April 2025 following a lengthy investigation by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office.
Houle remains jailed and awaiting trial on a First-Degree Homicide charge in Matthew’s death.
During her plea hearing, Amanda admitted she was in a two-year relationship with Houle and that he physically abused Matthew throughout that time. She confessed to helping conceal the abuse from both Child Protective Services and police, even during prior investigations leading up to the murder.
Amanda also admitted that she personally participated in abusing Matthew, describing one instance where she pushed his head into a wall during what she called a “military time out.” She further acknowledged that she allowed an environment of ongoing abuse and helped Houle cover up the cause of Matthew’s death.
As part of her plea, Amanda has agreed to testify truthfully in Houle’s upcoming trial, expected in early 2026. Her bond has been revoked, and she remains in the St. Clair County Jail pending sentencing.
Second-degree homicide carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.
St. Clair County Sheriff Mat King praised the tireless efforts of investigators who never stopped working the case over the past seven years:
“Thank you to the many law enforcement officers, family members, and others for bringing us to this day. Matthew is finally beginning to get the justice he deserves. The dedication to this case is unmatched. Although this is not the end, I am confident justice will be served.”
