Mount Clemens Man Arraigned on Assault With Intent to Murder After Shooting Neighbor

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that a Mount Clemens man has been arraigned on multiple felony charges after allegedly shooting his neighbor during a dispute at their apartment complex.

Jared Harris

Jared Harris, 28, is accused of shooting a neighbor in the abdomen following an argument over noise. Prosecutors say both men lived in the same apartment complex and had an ongoing dispute that escalated into violence.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, when Harris and the victim became involved in a verbal altercation. During the argument, Harris allegedly produced a handgun and fired a shot, striking the victim.

Harris was arraigned Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, before Magistrate Ryan Zemke at the 41-B District Court in Clinton Township on the following charges:

  • Assault With Intent to Murder, a felony punishable by life or any term of years
  • Felony Firearm, a mandatory two-year felony that must be served consecutively to the underlying offense

Prosecutors say these are the maximum charges available under Michigan law based on the evidence presented at this stage of the case.

Magistrate Zemke set Harris’s bond at $250,000 cash or surety and ordered him to have no contact with the victim. Harris is scheduled to appear for a Probable Cause Conference on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., before Judge Sebastian Lucido at the 41-B District Court in Clinton Township.

“It is alleged that the defendant introduced a firearm during an argument,” Prosecutor Lucido said in a statement. “Situations like this show how quickly a dispute can escalate and put people at real risk when a weapon is involved. Our office takes incidents involving guns very seriously and will move this case forward through the appropriate process.”

As with all criminal cases, Harris is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
