MSP Trooper Tases Suspect After Foot Chase; AR-Style Pistols Recovered in Detroit

DETROIT — A Michigan State Police trooper arrested a 29-year-old Detroit man after he fled a traffic stop Monday night on the city’s west side, leading to the recovery of three firearms including two AR-platform pistols from his vehicle.

Weapons Recovered

According to troopers, the stop occurred around 7:10 p.m. near Seven Mile Road and the southbound M-10 service drive, in the parking lot of Captain Jay’s Fish and Chicken. During the stop, the driver was asked to exit the vehicle to allow a consent search.

As the trooper began searching the vehicle, the driver suddenly ran eastbound along Seven Mile before turning south onto Strathmoor Street. The trooper deployed a Taser, taking the suspect into custody a short distance away.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a .22-caliber Derringer pistol along with two AR-style pistols. Investigators later determined the suspect is a convicted felon with a prior carrying a concealed weapon conviction dating back to September.

The man was transported to the Detroit Detention Center, where he is being held pending review by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing, including efforts to determine how the suspect obtained the firearms.

“Great work by this trooper to get these guns off the street,” MSP First Lieutenant Mike Shaw said, adding that the origin of the weapons is still under investigation.
