FOR PUBLIC RELEASE
This morning, the Michigan State Police requested assistance from the Livonia Police Department while following a stolen vehicle in our city.
Livonia Police Officers responded quickly to the area of westbound I-96 and Farmington Road and were able to bring the vehicle to a safe and effective stop using the Grappler device.
The Grappler is an innovative safety tool that deploys a high-strength net around a vehicle’s rear tire and axle, bringing the vehicle to a controlled stop within seconds.
The device was successfully deployed, and all occupants of the stolen vehicle were taken into custody without further incident.
As a result of this incident, westbound I-96 near Farmington was temporarily closed but is in the process of being reopened.
Additional details will be shared as they become available.
