Oakland County Prosecutor Charges Three Alleged Gang Members in Southfield Gas Station Gunfight That Wounded Two Bystanders

PONTIAC, Mich. — Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald has charged three alleged gang members in connection with a gun battle at a Southfield gas station that left two innocent bystanders wounded, including one victim with a bullet still lodged near his heart.

DeAngelo Brown

Prosecutors charged DeAngelo Brown, a 22-year-old Sterling Heights resident, Amaju Dozier, a 23-year-old Auburn Hills resident, and Romello Johnson, a 23-year-old Harper Woods resident, following a shooting that unfolded on October 28, 2025, at a BP station in Southfield. Authorities say Brown and Dozier encountered Johnson, described as a rival gang member, and the three men exchanged gunfire in a crowded public area. An innocent bystander was struck in the arm, while another victim riding in a passing pickup truck was shot in the chest. Doctors later determined it was too dangerous to remove the bullet due to its proximity to the victim’s heart.

According to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, Brown allegedly continued firing as Johnson returned fire while attempting to reach his vehicle. Investigators say neither victim was involved in the dispute and were simply caught in the crossfire.

Amaju Dozier
  • DeAngelo Brown is charged with 3 counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, 4 counts of Felony Firearms, Felon In Possession Of A Firearm, and Carrying A Concealed Weapon.
  • Amaju Dozier is charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, 2 counts of Felony Firearms, Felon In Possession Of A Firearm, and Carrying A Concealed Weapon.
  • Romello Johnson is charged with Carrying A Concealed Weapon, Felon In Possession Of A Firearm, and Felony Firearms.

Assault with Intent to Murder carries a potential penalty of up to life in prison. Felony Firearms convictions mandate a 2-year prison term served consecutively to any other sentence. Felon In Possession of a Firearm is punishable by up to 5 years in prison and or a $5000 fine, while Carrying a Concealed Weapon carries a possible sentence of up to 5 years in prison and or a $2500 fine.

“Gun violence is a public health crisis that takes many forms, from mass shootings to suicides to gang shootings that terrorize communities and endanger people trying to live their everyday lives,” said Prosecutor McDonald.

“We intend to vigorously pursue justice for the victims, but this is not enough. We cannot prosecute our way out of this crisis. Solutions, from greater investment in proactive policing, to support for violence disrupters, to common-sense reforms that disarm criminals, can make a difference. It’s past time to finally address this crisis.”

All charges are accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
