Michigan authorities have taken an Ohio attorney into custody after a grand jury indicted him on nearly 100 felony charges tied to stalking and secretly recording a teenage girl and other women.
Matthew Nicholas Currie, 50, an Oakwood, Ohio lawyer, was arrested in Birmingham, Michigan, by the U.S. Marshals Service on January 7, 2026, according to officials with the Southern District of Ohio.
Currie is facing a 91-count indictment in Ohio, including 49 counts of illegal use of a minor in a nudity-oriented material or performance, 40 counts of voyeurism, and two counts of unauthorized use of a computer or telecommunications property, announced by Mat Heck Jr., the Montgomery County Prosecutor.

Investigators say the case began in October 2024 after a family member discovered voyeuristic photos and videos on Currie’s cellphone and alerted the Oakwood Public Safety Department. A subsequent search warrant revealed that Currie allegedly stalked a 17-year-old Oakwood High School student, repeatedly photographing and recording her through her bedroom window in various states of nudity without her knowledge.
Prosecutors allege that after the teen left for college, Currie continued returning to the neighborhood to secretly record other women, including a family member of the original victim and a neighbor. Investigators also say Currie attempted to film up girls’ skirts inside Oakwood High School.
Authorities confirmed Currie relocated from Ohio to Michigan around the holidays. A warrant was issued for his arrest, leading to his capture in Oakland County. Officials said he had been living in a nursing or assisted living facility, though the exact location of his arrest was not confirmed.
Currie previously worked as a managing legal aid attorney for Advocates for Basic Legal Equality and retired in 2025, citing a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis. His Ohio law license was suspended in November.
Currie is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 20 in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court. Prosecutors say four victims have been identified and are urging anyone who believes they may be a victim to contact Oakwood police at 937-298-2122.
