Milan → Team Canada survived a major scare and advanced in dramatic fashion, defeating No. 8 ranked Czechia in overtime after Mitch Marner buried the game-winning goal in the 10-minute 3-on-3 extra period.
The No. 1 ranked Canadians were pushed to the brink in a physical, back-and-forth quarterfinal matchup that nearly turned into a stunning upset. Czechia took a third-period lead that had Canada on the verge of elimination, but Canada battled back late to tie the game and force overtime.
The momentum of the game shifted earlier in the second period when Sidney Crosby was ruled out after taking a series of heavy hits, leaving Canada without one of its veteran leaders for the remainder of the contest. Even without Crosby, Canada stayed composed down the stretch and kept pressure on Czechia.
With elimination on the line in overtime, Marner delivered the moment Canada needed, scoring the winner to seal the comeback victory and send the top-ranked team forward in the tournament.
