One of the two men arrested after a violent break-in at a Hazel Park marijuana processing facility that included the kidnapping and restraint of a security guard has now been sentenced to prison.

Court records show Michael Lamont Robinson, 24, was sentenced on December 18, 2025, after pleading no contest to charges stemming from the August 8, 2025 break-in at the HP Lab Group processing center on John R Road.

Sentencing Breakdown

Robinson was convicted and sentenced on the following charges:

  • Breaking and Entering With Intent
    • Minimum: 1 year
    • Maximum: 20 years
  • Unlawful Imprisonment
    • Minimum: 3 years
    • Maximum: 30 years

Both sentences were enhanced under Michigan’s habitual offender statute.

Restitution Ordered

Robinson was also ordered to pay $250,000 in restitution, which must be paid as a condition of parole.

According to state records, Robinson’s earliest possible release date is August 9, 2028, with a maximum discharge date of August 9, 2055.

What Happened

The case stems from a break-in reported around 1:33 a.m. on August 8, 2025, when a vehicle was driven into the cannabis processing facility, leaving a large hole in the building.

Police pursued a U-Haul truck seen fleeing the scene and later discovered a security guard who reported he had been kidnapped at gunpoint, duct-taped, and temporarily restrained during the break-in. The guard was able to free himself and return to the scene. No injuries were reported.

Investigators recovered approximately 40 THC vape cartridges.

Robinson’s co-defendant, Michael Allen Hopson, remains charged in the case. His matter is still moving through the court system.
