Police Chase Through Southwest Detroit Ends With Arrest, Taser Deployment

Detroit, MI → A late-night pursuit that began with Allen Park police ended in Detroit after Michigan State Police tracked down a fleeing suspect who ran through a neighborhood before being taken into custody.

At approximately 11:50p.m. on February 7, the Detroit Regional Communications Center was notified that the Allen Park Police Department was pursuing a vehicle for traffic violations. A Michigan State Police helicopter, Trooper 2, was already on patrol over the district and began assisting by maintaining visual contact from above while Allen Park units continued the pursuit.

Allen Park officers eventually terminated their pursuit, but Trooper 2 stayed overhead tracking the vehicle. MSP Troopers later attempted to stop the suspect near Springwells Street and I-75, but the driver refused to pull over and continued fleeing.

The vehicle ultimately came to a stop on Deacon Street near Miami in the city of Detroit. Both the driver and passenger ran from the vehicle once it stopped.

A 23-year-old female passenger was left behind and taken into custody at the scene. The driver, a 34-year-old man, continued running through the neighborhood with troopers close behind. A Taser was deployed during the foot pursuit, and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

“The passenger was interviewed on scene and released,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “The driver was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and will be lodged. Troopers conducted a search of the suspect vehicle and found narcotics and a pair of brass knuckles. The investigation is pending prosecutor review.”
