Police say a 59-year-old man from Pontiac, Michigan, is facing several charges after allegedly assaulting a woman and injuring two officers in New York over the weekend.
According to the Nassau County Police Department, officers were called to a home in Elmont around 9:30 p.m. on October 19 for a reported disturbance. When they arrived, they encountered 59-year-old James D. Nelson of Pontiac, Michigan.
Investigators say Nelson and a 59-year-old woman had been in a verbal argument that turned physical when Nelson allegedly punched the woman multiple times in the face and head and damaged her television.
When officers tried to take Nelson into custody, he reportedly became combative, injuring two officers before being subdued with a taser and Oleoresin Capsicum Spray (OC Spray.) Nelson, the victim, and the two officers were all taken to local hospitals for evaluation.
Nelson has been charged with two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, Assault in the Third Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, and Resisting Arrest. He was arraigned October 20 at First District Court in Hempstead, New York.
