William Hanley was sentenced January 12 in front of Judge Daniel P. O’Brien after pleading guilty in connection with the July 2025 shooting that prosecutors said stemmed from a confrontation between rival groups during the filming of a music video.
The case dates back to July 28, 2025, when Hanley and two other men were involved in an altercation at a Pontiac gas station. Investigators said the victim attempted to retreat from the fight before Hanley allegedly fired a handgun. The victim reportedly returned fire before fleeing the area. No one was struck, but investigators recovered multiple shell casings from the parking lot and nearby neighborhood.
Hanley ultimately pleaded guilty on the following charges:
• Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder
• Felony Firearm
• Carrying a Concealed Weapon
Sentencing records show Hanley received the following terms:
For Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder, Hanley was sentenced to a minimum of 18 months in prison with a maximum of 10 years.
For Felony Firearm, Hanley received a mandatory sentence of two years in prison.
For Carrying a Concealed Weapon, he was sentenced to time served, with credit for 159 days already spent in custody.
Court records specify that the felony firearm conviction is to be served consecutively to the assault conviction, as required by Michigan law.
As part of his sentence, Hanley was ordered to have no contact with the victim and no contact or association with co-defendants Devone Calhoun and Damian Thomas.
Fines and costs across both cases include $130 in victims rights fees and $322 in state minimum costs, for a combined total of $452.
