On December 5, 2025, Representative Rashida Tlaib toured the ICE North Lake Processing Facility in Baldwin, Michigan, which detains individuals convicted of some of the most egregious crimes including sexual exploitation of minors, attempted murder, drug trafficking, aggravated assault, weapons offenses, and domestic violence. According to DHS claims, many of those being held are repeat offenders with final removal orders, including sex offenders and violent criminals who have already victimized Americans.

Instead of commending ICE agents for removing dangerous individuals from American communities, Rep. Tlaib chose to attack them. She characterized ICE operations as unjust and claimed her goal is to “push back against ICE and get them off our streets and keep our families together.”
DHS officials say Tlaib’s visit ignored the real victims, the law-abiding Americans whose safety is threatened by criminal illegal aliens. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said that Tlaib’s rhetoric is contributing to a more than 1,150% increase in assaults against ICE officers. These are the men and women working to protect neighborhoods from individuals who have no legal right to be in the United States and have already proven they pose a danger.

By refusing to acknowledge the crimes committed by detainees, Tlaib effectively casts sympathy on convicted offenders, including those guilty of violent felonies and sexual exploitation of children. That is not compassion, it is willfully ignoring victims in order to score political points.
Bottom line: Instead of siding with law enforcement and families who have lost loved ones to illegal alien crime, Tlaib chose to stand with convicted criminals, undermining the critical mission of ICE officers who work every day to secure American communities.
