A stolen Dodge Durango was recovered early Saturday morning thanks to teamwork between state troopers, Detroit police and the Michigan State Police aviation unit.
Just after 1:30 a.m. on October 18, Trooper 2 located the stolen Durango traveling on I-96 near Joy Road. The flight crew followed the vehicle as it entered the Motor City Casino garage.
Ground units from both MSP and DPD arrived moments later and found the SUV abandoned on the first floor. Casino security footage helped identify the suspect, who fled on foot into the casino, then fled officers and exited the casino.
Officers tracked the 25-year-old man from Ann Arbor and found him hiding in bushes near the M-10 service drive. He was arrested without further incident.
“Great work from all involved,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “From our aviation unit to troopers and officers on the ground and security technology at the casino, law enforcement continues to work together to combat crime in the district.”
