22-month-old Kyrie Starks passed away on June 22, 2022, after being brutally abused by his babysitter, a woman his mother once considered a trusted friend.
Kyrie’s mother, Taylor Starks, said 21-year-old Kimora Launmei Hodges had watched her son multiple times and was caring for him on June 13, 2022. Early the next morning, Hodges sent Taylor a message claiming Kyrie had eaten soap and was having an allergic reaction.
Taylor rushed home and found her baby “on the ground having seizure after seizure.”
Doctors later determined Kyrie had suffered severe blunt-force trauma to the head, was bleeding from his ears, and required emergency brain surgery. He died nine days later.
Investigators said Hodges admitted to throwing the toddler against a wall and violently shaking him.
Hodges was arrested, charged with first-degree child abuse, and later convicted of felony murder after Kyrie’s death. On November 4, 2025, a Macomb County judge sentenced her to life in prison for felony murder and 15–40 years for child abuse.
