Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that Daniel Liam Waldrep, 30, was arraigned in 39th District Court following an alleged barricaded gunman incident that unfolded on Kathy Avenue in Roseville on Friday, January 23, 2026.
According to investigators, Roseville police were called to the home after multiple reports of a domestic disturbance involving Waldrep and his wife, 25-year-old Bryanna Waldrep. Police say Waldrep was intoxicated, armed, and acting aggressively. He allegedly forced his way into the residence and injured Bryanna before she managed to escape and run to a neighbor’s house for safety.
Once inside, Waldrep allegedly barricaded himself in the home and began firing a high powered rifle at responding officers. One round struck a police cruiser and a grazing bullet hit an officer in the head. The officer’s injuries were described as non life threatening.
Police say Waldrep continued shooting from inside the residence during a prolonged standoff that required a tactical law enforcement response. He was eventually taken into custody without further injuries to officers or civilians and is currently hospitalized.
Charges Filed
Waldrep was arraigned on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, before Judge Joseph F. Boedeker. He is charged with the following offenses:
- 4 counts Assault with Intent to Murder, felony, punishable by any term of years up to life
- 1 count Weapons, Firearm Possession by a Prohibited Person, 5-year felony
- 1 count Weapons, Ammunition Possession by a Prohibited Person, 5-year felony
- 1 count Attempted Peace Officer Disarming a Firearm, 10-year felony
- 1 count Police Officer Assaulting, Resisting, or Obstructing, 2-year felony
- 1 count Domestic Violence, 93-day misdemeanor
- 6 counts Felony Firearm, 2-year felony each, to be served consecutively
Prosecutors also filed a Habitual Offender Third Offense Notice, which could significantly increase sentencing exposure.
Lucido said these are the strongest charges supported by the evidence at this stage of the case.
Judge Boedeker set Waldrep’s bond at $2 million cash or surety, no 10% allowed. If released, Waldrep must wear a steel cuff tether, remain under home confinement, have no contact with the victim or any witnesses, and is prohibited from using alcohol or drugs.
Waldrep is scheduled to return to court for a Probable Cause Conference on February 11, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., followed by a Preliminary Exam on February 18, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., both at the 39th District Court in Roseville.
Prosecutor Lucido said the case represents an extreme level of danger to both police and the public.
“The defendant has been charged with 14 felony offenses allegedly stemming from an extremely dangerous incident that put law enforcement and the public at grave risk. We are profoundly grateful the officer who was struck by a grazing bullet is expected to recover. The alleged actions in this case demonstrate a complete disregard for human life and public safety, and it is sheer luck that more people were not seriously injured or killed. This level of violence will not be tolerated in this county, and our office will pursue this prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.”
As with all criminal cases, Waldrep is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
