Slotkin Faces FBI Inquiry After Warning Troops To Reject “Illegal Orders” — Despite Admitting She Knows Of None Given

Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin is now the central figure in a counterterrorism inquiry launched by the FBI after she joined five other Democrats in a video urging military and intelligence members to refuse unlawful commands a move President Trump called “seditious behavior” and potentially dangerous to military discipline.

Slotkin framed the video as a constitutional reminder. The administration sees it as an attempt to plant doubt in the chain of command. And now a federal investigation is underway.

But the most damaging detail for Slotkin may have come from Slotkin herself.

SHE WARNED THE MILITARY ABOUT ILLEGAL ORDERS – THEN ADMITTED SHE KNOWS OF NONE

In an interview on ABC’s This Week on Sunday, November 23rd, Slotkin was asked directly whether she believed President Trump has issued any illegal orders.

Her answer cut the legs out from under her earlier warning:

“To my knowledge, I am not aware of things that are illegal.”
— Elissa Slotkin, 11/23/2025

Just days earlier, Slotkin told U.S. troops and intelligence workers they “must refuse” such orders if given. Yet when pressed, she acknowledged she has no evidence Trump has issued any illegal commands whatsoever.

That makes the video not a response to an actual illegal directive, but a preemptive caution against something she admits isn’t happening.

It’s a distinction her critics call reckless.

THE WHITE HOUSE ARGUMENT – AND WHY IT RESONATES

Trump’s position is straightforward:

  • Military authority requires trust and clarity
  • Publicly suggesting troops should be prepared to disobey orders sows hesitation and fracture
  • Hesitation in combat can get people killed

Even if well-intended, a Senator telling troops when to question their orders without proof an illegal order has ever been issued lands directly in territory the Commander-in-Chief is obligated to challenge.

And now federal investigators are doing exactly that.

PENTAGON REVIEW ESCALATES THE STAKES

One member of the group — Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona now faces a Pentagon review to determine whether he can be recalled to active duty for court-martial. That is not symbolism.

That’s a warning shot.

If retired officers can be recalled for their role in the video, the message is clear:
the military chain of command comes before political messaging.

THREATS OR NOT — THE VIDEO WAS A CALCULATED MOVE

Slotkin says she and the others acted because unnamed service members expressed concerns about future orders. But without specific examples and now with her admission that she knows of no illegal orders, critics argue the video appears more like a political preemptive strike than a necessary constitutional reminder.

A Senator cautioning soldiers against something she can’t identify or substantiate is exactly why the President, the Pentagon, and now the FBI are treating the matter seriously.

If there were illegal orders, she’d have named them.

She didn’t…because she couldn’t.

She said so herself.

BOTTOM LINE

Slotkin told troops to refuse illegal orders.

Slotkin now admits she’s aware of none.

That disconnect is the heart of the controversy — and now potentially the basis of an investigation.
