St. Clair County, MI – The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office announced it will conduct a targeted Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) enforcement campaign from March 13 through March 17 aimed at reducing impaired driving and improving roadway safety across the county.
Law enforcement officials say the enforcement effort will focus on drivers impaired by alcohol, marijuana, prescription medications, and other substances that can affect a person’s ability to safely operate a vehicle. Deputies will be increasing patrols and actively watching for signs of impaired driving during the enforcement period.
Authorities warn that impaired driving puts everyone on the road at risk, including passengers, other motorists, and pedestrians. Officials are urging residents to plan ahead before going out and to avoid getting behind the wheel if they have been drinking or using substances that impair judgment or reaction time.
Safety officials recommend several simple steps to prevent impaired driving incidents:
✔️ Designate a sober driver before going out
✔️ Use a rideshare service or taxi
✔️ Stay overnight if necessary
✔️ Call a trusted friend or family member for a ride
✔️ If you see someone attempting to drive impaired, take their keys and help them arrange a safe ride
The enforcement campaign will cover all areas of St. Clair County, including the cities of Algonac, Marine City, Marysville, Memphis, Port Huron, Richmond, St. Clair, and Yale, as well as the villages of Capac and Emmett.
Deputies will also be patrolling numerous townships throughout the county, including Berlin, Brockway, Burtchville, Casco, China, Clay, Clyde, Columbus, Cottrellville, East China, Emmett, Fort Gratiot, Grant, Greenwood, Ira, Kenockee, Kimball, Lynn, Mussey, Port Huron Township, Riley, St. Clair Township, and Wales Township.
Officials say the goal of the enforcement period is simple: Prevent crashes, protect families, and keep impaired drivers off the road.
Residents are encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers to local authorities and to always make responsible choices when it comes to drinking and driving.
