Stevens Launches Impeachment Against RFK Jr. That Will Go Nowhere Except Her Fundraising Emails

Michigan voters already have enough on their plate with rising costs, strained hospitals, and a healthcare system that has seen better days. But instead of rolling up her sleeves and working to fix anything, Rep. Haley Stevens chose to hold a press event to announce impeachment articles against Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. A move that even insiders on Capitol Hill admit has zero chance of going anywhere.

Stevens is locked in a competitive Democratic primary for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat. She is performing well in early polling, but nothing is guaranteed in a race with multiple well-known contenders. That makes her impeachment announcement look less like a focused policy move and more like an effort to dominate the news cycle and fire up donors while ballots are getting closer.

Kennedy’s team has brushed off the attack. They say he is working to lower health care costs and expand access to medical care, not participate in political theater. That response resonated with many Michiganders who are tired of politicians treating Washington like a stage show while families fight to stay insured and afford medications.

Stevens is trying to dress this up as a “public safety” issue, claiming Kennedy is putting lives at risk. But instead of backing those claims with real evidence or legislation that could actually help people, she reached for the most performative tool in Washington: Impeachment. If this were truly about protecting Michigan families, she would be working across the aisle to fix the problems she keeps talking about. Instead, it looks like she simply wanted a headline and a fundraising boost.

Michigan needs real solutions and serious leadership. Impeachment talk is nothing but noise. Stevens knows Republicans control the House. She knows it will never make it to a vote. And she knows this spectacle scores points in the kind of fundraising emails that hit inboxes minutes later.

Kennedy may not be beloved by every voter, but he is actually in a role where he has to make tough decisions that impact health care every day. Stevens is in a role where she should be helping him succeed for the benefit of Michigan families. Instead, she’s spending time grandstanding while trying to climb into a bigger office.

Metro Detroit deserves lawmakers focused on delivering results, not political stunts dressed up as heroics. And if this is the best pitch Stevens has to convince voters she belongs in the Senate, it says a lot about the campaign she is running.
