DETROIT — A stolen vehicle investigation turned into a foot pursuit Wednesday morning after a MSP trooper attempted to stop a suspect near Davison Road and La Salle Boulevard.
According to police, at approximately 11:30 a.m. on December 24, a trooper patrolling northbound on the Lodge Freeway near Glendale Street observed a vehicle confirmed to be stolen. The suspect pulled into a parking lot near Davison and La Salle, exited the vehicle, and initially made contact with the trooper before resisting and fleeing on foot.
Backup units responded as the suspect ran through a residential area. The trooper deployed a Taser multiple times during the chase, but it was ineffective. The pursuit ended when the trooper caught up to the suspect between neighborhood houses, where a brief struggle occurred before the suspect was taken into custody.
The suspect, a 50-year-old man from Pontiac, was arrested without further incident and lodged pending prosecutor review. No injuries were reported.
“Another addition for Santa’s naughty list,” said Mike Shaw. “Great work by the trooper getting this suspect off the streets before he could do more harm. The suspect can now spend the holiday in jail waiting for his court appearance.”
