Suspect in Tennessee Double Murder Believed to Be Hiding in Detroit Area

Authorities in Tennessee have identified and indicted a suspect in the shooting that left two men dead and another critically wounded on I-640 West early on a Sunday morning, November 16. All three victims were originally from Detroit and were reportedly traveling from Detroit to Atlanta with the shooter at the time of the gunfire.

The victims were identified as Troy Hutchison, 33, of Atlanta Georgia, Rodrell Jeter, 25, of Detroit Michigan, and a 22-year-old Detroit man who remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Investigators determined that the group was traveling together in a rented light-colored newer-model Ford Bronco with Michigan plate 26541RF, and that the suspected shooter fled in the same vehicle after the attack.

The SUV was later located abandoned in Fort Mitchell Kentucky. Investigators traveled to the scene and recovered the vehicle with assistance from the Villa Hills Police Department. Police made a correction to earlier reporting that inaccurately stated Fort Mitchell Police assisted in the recovery.

Dashonn Moten

Following a detailed review of cellphone evidence, along with dozens of interviews and several anonymous Crime Stoppers tips, detectives identified Dashonn Moten, 27, born 12-25-1997, as the shooter. On November 25 it was announced that a Knox County grand jury issued a 17-count indictment that includes two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of felony murder, and one count of attempted first-degree murder related to the surviving victim.

Moten has no known criminal history in Knox County and is no longer believed to be in Tennessee. Investigators now believe he has returned to the Detroit area. The Knoxville Police Department has requested assistance from the United States Marshals Service with efforts to track him down.

Anyone with information on where Moten may be is asked to contact East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers at 865-215-7165. Tips can be submitted anonymously and may be eligible for a reward.
