Suspect Surrenders After 2 Critically Injured in New Year’s Day Bar Shooting

GARDEN CITY, Mich. — A shooting outside Rockstarz Bar early New Year’s Day left two men critically injured, prompting a full-scale police investigation that ended with the suspected shooter turning themself in hours later.

Garden City police were dispatched to the bar, located on Ford Road, shortly after 4:00 a.m. Thursday as the business was closing and patrons were leaving. Officers arrived to find two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot.

Both victims were rushed to area hospitals, where they remain in critical condition.

According to investigators, the suspected shooter contacted authorities later in the day and voluntarily surrendered at the Garden City Police Department at approximately 2:00 p.m. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Police have not yet said what connection, if any, exists between the suspect and the victims.

Police described the shooting as an isolated incident and said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Ford Road was shut down for several hours Thursday morning between Wildwood and Venoy while detectives processed the scene and collected evidence. Officers also reviewed surveillance footage from nearby businesses as part of the investigation.

Authorities confirmed that a separate overnight shooting in Inkster was unrelated.
