Taylor, MI – Taylor Police are alerting families after a concerning interaction involving a 10-year-old child inside the Target store on Pardee Road earlier this week.
According to police, officers were called to the store around 5:00pm on January 24th after a white male, believed to be in his late 20s to early 30s, approached a child who was shopping with an adult. The man reportedly began asking the child questions about Pokémon cards and then told the child he had Pokémon cards in his vehicle and asked the child if they wanted to see them.
The adult immediately removed the child from the area and contacted police.
The man was described as wearing a blue beanie-style hat, a beige hoodie, and having a short beard.
Police say the incident was fully investigated and no criminal charge was identified. However, authorities released the information publicly to make families aware and to encourage parents to remain alert in public places where children are present.
Taylor Police stressed that suspicious interactions do not always rise to the level of a criminal charge, but that early reporting and awareness can help prevent more serious incidents from occurring.
Parents are being encouraged to speak with their children about not engaging with strangers, not following anyone to a vehicle, and to immediately notify a trusted adult if someone makes them uncomfortable.
