Teen Accused of Taking Grandmother’s Vehicle Located in Downriver Investigation

Ecorse, MI – A 15-year-old girl is facing possible charges after troopers located a stolen vehicle Sunday afternoon in Ecorse and later tracked her down in Trenton.

According to Michigan State Police, troopers were on patrol around 4:15 p.m. on Feb. 22 when they received a notification out of Monroe County about a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier in the day. Investigators say the vehicle belonged to the teen’s grandmother.

The stolen vehicle was found unoccupied in a Family Dollar parking lot along West Jefferson in Ecorse. Troopers reviewed surveillance video from the area and observed a Black male exiting the vehicle and getting into another car. The female suspect was not seen in the footage at that location.

Authorities then contacted the vehicle’s owner and learned the teen had been communicating with her and was believed to be in Trenton. Troopers responded to the address provided and located the suspect.

Preliminary findings indicate the male seen on video was a friend of the juvenile, and investigators believe she allowed him to borrow the vehicle after taking it.

The teen was taken into custody and turned over to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, which will continue the investigation and submit the case to the prosecutor’s office for review.

“Great teamwork locating the female suspect,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “Monroe County Sheriff’s Office will continue the investigation and submit it to their prosecutor’s office for review.”

No additional information has been released at this time.
