Two teenagers with gunshot wounds were dropped off at Detroit’s 8th Precinct around noon on Wednesday, and investigators say they were not random victims. According to Detroit Police, a total of four teens are tied to the incident, though it is only confirmed that two of them physically arrived at the precinct with injuries. Detectives are working to determine whether the remaining two were present at the drop-off or are simply connected to the case.
The wounded teens were taken to a local hospital and are expected to survive.
Commander Dietrich Lever says the group was already the focus of a violent criminal investigation prior to the shooting.
“These weren’t innocent teens. These were teens that were already targets of a violent criminal investigation ongoing at this time,” Lever said.
The department has not released their ages, the location of the shooting, or the nature of the criminal case the teens were linked to. Investigators are still establishing where and when the gunfire occurred.
Lever urged parents to pay attention, stay involved, and know who their kids are with.
“It’s extremely important to be actively engaged in your children’s lives every day, and know what they’re doing. Talk to them so we can prevent incidents like this.”
The investigation remains active with more updates expected as police track down details and piece together how all four teens are connected.
