U-M Law Student Balances Legal Studies and $1.5 Million Adult Content Career

ANN ARBOR, MI – Emily Cocea, a 22-year-old first-year law student at the University of Michigan, is gaining national attention after revealing that she earns roughly $1.5 million annually creating and selling adult content online.

In an interview with PEOPLE (click the link), Cocea explained that her path began out of financial necessity. When she was 15, her father passed away unexpectedly, leaving her family struggling. Determined to become a lawyer, Cocea began exploring ways to fund her education herself.

By age 18, she had launched a social media persona known as “HotBlockchain,” targeting a tech-savvy audience with disposable income. That first year, she made about $250,000 — and her earnings have skyrocketed since.

Cocea earned her bachelor’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University, where she said some classmates initially mocked her online presence before realizing how successful she had become. “After the first two months, people just respected that it was a job,” she said.

Now attending law school in Ann Arbor, Cocea describes herself as somewhat of an “enigma” on campus but says most students and faculty have treated her with respect.

When asked about her future plans, Cocea says she has no interest in “big law.” Instead, she hopes to become a public defender and use her legal education to help others — even while maintaining her online brand.
