MONROE, Mich. — U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Gibraltar Station arrested a 60-year-old German national convicted of a child sex crime immediately after his release from jail, federal officials announced.
Silvio Berge, who was in the United States on a visa, was convicted of accosting, enticing, or soliciting a child for immoral purposes after investigators say he attempted to solicit sex from a teenager last March. The “teenager” was actually an undercover law enforcement officer.

Berge served nearly nine months in the Monroe County Jail following the conviction. Upon his release on Dec. 5, U.S. Border Patrol agents took him into custody after his visa was revoked as a result of the crime.
The investigation and prosecution were the result of a joint effort involving Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents and victim assistance specialists, along with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Violent Internet Predator Exploitation Response (VIPER) Team.
“This case highlights the comprehensive nature of our immigration enforcement mission,” said Detroit Sector Deputy Chief Patrol Agent Javier Geronimo Jr., noting that agents act decisively when individuals abuse the privilege of legal entry and pose a threat to public safety.
Berge will be deported from the United States, federal authorities confirmed.
